Can a wine bring you good luck?

The good people at Sokol Blosser winery can’t answer that. Even though their new vintage of Evolution, a refreshing blend of 9 white wine varietals, is called Lucky Edition.

What’s behind it? Well…and please don’t pass this on if you or your friends are superstitious, it’s actually the 13th edition of Evolution. “Thirteen is not the right vibe for this wine,” said Alison Sokol Blosser, Co-President of Sokol Blosser Wines. “We’ve always felt this wine was blessed with good fortune. I don’t want to minimize our winemakers, really, but there was something cosmic going on when just the right blend of nine grapes came together.”

Not so cosmic is how people are introduced to Evolution. “We know many people are drawn to the label, and then once they taste it, become fans,” said Sokol Blosser. “Plus, the word of mouth is strong, and the wine is especially food friendly.”

So does luck play a role? “I know one thing for sure,” said Sokol Blosser. “This wine brings me luck! So when time came for the edition after twelve, we said no to 13, and yes to Lucky Edition.”

But it brings to mind the subject of luck. Be it a horseshoe, four leaf clovers, fingers crossed or the relatively new baseball phenomena of turning your cap inside out to spur a rally. The people at Sokol Blosser wanted to know more, but instead of going to the experts, they took to the streets (and their winery) to find out if people really believe in luck, and if so, how they get it. The result is captured in the video on this page.

Nine perfect grapes, all dancing in tune together to make a great white wine. Luck? Happenstance? Coincidence? Intention? Or just great wine making?

According to Sokol Blosser: “Really good wine-making for sure….but there is a four-leaf clover on the bottle!”
